James Martin is hearing that Dr. Keith Hummel may withdraw in his race againstĀ Congressman Rob Wittman due to some past financial problems.
I’ve heard about these allegations myself, but was waiting to hear back from someone close to the campaign before going public with it. Sad.
James mentions Sen. Houck or Del. Pollard as theoretical replacements; but that ain’t happening.

Hummel had a string of bankruptcies going back to the 1970s. Although he has met all his legal obligations, a lot of people were repaid less than half –including at least a couple who are politically influential.
Too, too bad. The guy had a great background (otherwise) and a great platform.
The silver lining is that since Hummel filed , Dems now have until mid-September to replace him on the ticket.
I think we should get behind Pete Fields (if he’ll run). He’s got a lot of political contacts district-wide and experience winning big in a GOP-heavy constituency.
Ted Hontz is apparently not interested, nor is Steve Wolfe. Carlos del Toro can certainly raise significant money, but his campaign track record is none too impressive.
I agree with you about Pete Fields; I think he has a really bright future. But I’ve always envisioned him running for a seat in the General Assembly or something first.
you 2 smoking from the same crack pipe?
fields would be a dee-zaster. is he going to wear them hippy beads when he campaigns at the legion post? the good ol’ boys will throw him out on his beehind!
if you dems had any stones you’d cut and run from that socialist board that did bpol and painted big ol letter L’s on your forheads. run a workin’ guy who does an honest days work and has to pay his people before he pays his mortgage. yah, you do that!
This was unfortunately long overdue; his track record would have made for a much easier win than the Republicans need. There is no way that Del Toro should run in relatively the same area after a loss last go around, he is an incredibly strong candidate, but lives in the wrong area. Pete Fields looks like a good step up, although green, should bring more to the table than Dr. Hummel.
Certainly makes life easier for Rob Wittman. Without some kind of intervention (i.e., money) by the DCCC, no one is going to step up on such short notice.
Is Keith going to leave his name on the ballot? If so, there will be an alternative that should get 40+% in what shapes up as a good blue year.
Otherwise, well, I guess I’ll just have to write in Price Jett Jr.
