1st CD Convention This Saturday

On Saturday May 17 from 1-4 pm, Democrats will meet at the Williamsburg Marriott Kingsmill for the First Congressional District Convention. Not only will delegates be chosen to attend the National Convention in Denver this summer, but they’ll also choose a Democrat to run against Rep. Rob Wittman for his House seat. Dr. Keith Hummel of Westmoreland County is the likely nominee.

Contact Fredericksburg Dem Chair Amy LaMarca for more information on the day’s events.

The following slate of delegates has been endorsed by Sen. Barack Obama and the Obama for America campaign:

  • State Senator John Miller
  • Amy LaMarca of Fredericksburg
  • Ronald Freeman of Spotsylvania
  • Rebecca Jaramillo McCullough of Fauquier

    Let’s hope the convention shows some courage and gives Keith Hummel a ballot spot. As of 05/10 it was still an open question if “no candidate” would win. I could not and cannot understand that thinking!

    It’s probably too much to ask the DCCC to bump this race into even second-tier status, but it’s going to be a bad moon rising for the Republicans this year and Warner is going to generate some real enthusiasm. If there’s ever a year where a Democrat can contend in VA-01, this is it.

    I also believe that Dr. Keith will prove himself to be an attractive candidate in tune with the district and the issues.

    I agree completely that Dr. Keith should be our nominee for the 1st district.

    As last night proved, even “unwinnable” districts like MS-01 can be won this year.

    I expect him to get a tremendous amount of support from throughout the district.
