RK: VA Supreme Court Tosses Part of ‘07 Transportation Plan

Lowell Feld:
I’m hearing from multiple sources that the Virginia Supreme Court this morning threw out a key portion of HB 3202, last year’s brilliant transportation bill that RK liked to call the “monstrosity.” More to follow as I receive further details on why the Supreme Court decided this Bill Howell brilliance was declared unconstitutional.

See, I’m Not Crazy (yet)

Several months ago I came up with a theory on who Barack Obama would select as his runningmate and the subsequent domino effect it would have on the political enviornment here in Virginia. Nobody really paid attention at the time, but that’s OK because I’m just some stupid blogger.
But now Dan Conley has surfaced over at [...]

Politico: Mark Warner “Sports Reverse Coattails”

In past presidential election years, Virginia Democrats running for office were wary of their Republican opponents being able to ride into office on the “coattails” of their party’s presidential nominee. It made things that much easier for George Allen to defeat Sen. Chuck Robb in 2000, and it made David Ashe’s already tough task of defeating Rep. Thelma Drake in [...]

Del. Chris Jones (R-Suffolk): Worst. Legislator. Ever.

Just when you think Virginia Republicans can’t get any more brazen:
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 18.2-71 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 18.2-71. Producing abortion or miscarriage, etc.; penalty.
Except as provided in other sections of this article, any person, including the pregnant female, who [...]

Superdelegates v. Democracy

You may have noticed in recent months that Alberto Gonzales is no longer our Attorney General. The person we have to thank for that is a blogger named Josh Marshall who, one day, decided to do some digging into an unusual pattern he saw regarding the firings of several U.S. attorneys on his blog, Talking Points [...]

‘Congress Debates’ Tonight

This is scheduled to be broadcast live tonight at 8pm on C-SPAN (link). Some pretty big names involved including House GOP Conference Chair Adam Putnam (R-FL), House Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emmanuel (D-IL), and our very own Eric Cantor (R-VA), the GOP’s Chief Deputy Whip.
The House Democratic Caucus and the House Republican Conference, in cooperation with the Democratic Leadership [...]

Pollard Gets Busy

From the Desk of Delegate Albert Pollard (D-99):
Following the overnight certification of ballots, Albert Pollard, newly elected delegate from the 99th District, joined the already underway legislative session last Wednesday morning in a brief swearing in ceremony.
Following the ceremony Del. Pollard began the work of casting votes and representing the 99th immediately. On his [...]

NLS: $peaker Bill Howell

Not Larry Sabato has just published what is the first in a series of blog posts focused on GOP fundraiser extraordinaire Chris Jankowski. It might not be a big deal, but it’s worth keeping tabs on; just ask FORMER Sen. George Allen or FORMER State Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites Davis (to name a few).
One of the things [...]

Free Lance-Star Fact Check Vol. XXXIX

From the people that brought us “The country’s economic foundation and, more crucially, its physical security are safer if (Bush) wins a second term” three and a half years ago…Donnie Johnston comes up with this argument to justify his mocking of the recent televised presidential debates.
Even in the midst of a Hollywood writer’s strike, the debates that [...]

Mensa’s Chair Picks 10 Smartest TV Shows of All Time: Really?

UPDATE: Former Milwaukee greasers Leonard “Lenny” Kosnoski and Andrew “Squiggy” Squigman have filed suit in Milwaukee County (Wisc.) Circuit Court against Mensa International. The suit claims defamation, based on the fact that the 1950’s-themed sitcom on which they were secondary characters, “Laverne & Shirley” was not included in Mensa’s 10 Smartest TV Shows of All [...]

FXBG’s “Proxy Delegate” Albert Pollard Takes His Seat in the Va. House

News that Albert Pollard had been sworn-in at the Virginia House of Delegates was sunshine on (yesterday’s) cloudy day.
While disappointed (we) cannot call him Senator, Fred2Blue is nonetheless THRILLED to have Albert Pollard back in the Virginia General Assembly.
Last year, as both Stafford County Democratic chair and 28th District Democratic Party nominating chair, I got to know Albert well.  [...]

Flashback: Oct. 17, 2004

Back in 2004, I would have told anyone that would listen that George W. Bush would go down as one of the worst Presidents in the history of this country. With news today that his approval rating has clocked in at a ridiculously low 19% (ARG), I’m really at a loss for words at just how gullible 51% [...]

BREAKING: NY Times Report Links McCain to Female Lobbyist

UPDATE: Throughout history, the appearance of the total lunar eclipse has had important meanings.
Court astrologers in the middle ages viewed the total lunar eclipse as a time when grand secrets and deceptions (of political nature) are revealed.  Tonight, there is a total lunar eclipse visible across the United States.
Whether or not you believe in astrology, you’ve got [...]
