2008 Predictions!
Seeing that the FL-S has surveyed its readers (all 1,400 of them) on the top news stories of 2007, we thought we’d poll all twelve of ours for some 2008 predictions. Here are the results:
1. Immigration
Following the furvor over immigration in 2007’s local and General Assembly races, driving-while-Hispanic surpasses driving-while-black as the top reason motorists in Stafford and Spotsy are [...]

Pollard’s In
The Washington Post’s Virginia Politics blog reports that Albert Pollard will indeed run in the Feb. 19 special election to fill his former seat in the House of Delegates’ 99th District. As I’ve said many times, Pollard is the most popular politician in the Northern Neck right now. He even spanked Richard Stuart in his own [...]

SHOCKER: FLS Screws Up The Facts!
Knowing full well that they were going to lose their “case” against Patricia Mancini, Jett & co. were fully prepared to spin the results. And, to the surprise of no one, the Free Lance-Star was only too happy to oblige. I received this via email from a local man who’s been following the case, regarding Jeff [...]

It’s over. And the decision is unanimous!
A 3-judge panel convening today at Stafford County Circuit Court, in the matter of Jett Jr. v. Mancini, has voted 3-0 to uphold the election of Patricia Mancini to the Stafford County School Board.
Justice prevails. Case closed.
No reaction yet from the litigant, Price Jett, Jr., or his consorts Speaker of the House [...]

Va. Prison Inmate Search Turns Up…Cellphones
As first reported yesterday by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a surprise search of inmates at a (privately-run) minimum-security prison in Lawrenceville, Va. turned up half a dozen…CELLPHONES.
(Hey Screw, can you hear me now?)
The Dec. 7 discovery followed the release of an independent study citing other instances of contraband items at the prison - mostly drugs.
The prison, located in [...]

…and Billy, You’re Doing a Heckuva Job
Several days ago I wrote on this blog about how I’m sick and tired of the series of sleazy attacks on Sen. Obama by various Clinton campaign surrogates. I see no reason to play favorites in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination since, frankly, I have no favorite(s). But it looks like I’m not [...]

Sighs and Wonders
(A fortnightly rant, FL-S style.)
As we close out this exhausting year, this writer is left wondering…
Will the next Virginia General Assembly comport (itself) better than the last?
Will it send the dreaded Abuser Fees to the scrapheap of history?
Will the Stafford Board of Supervisors become a body of the people and not of the privileged few?
Will Wild Bill Howell, [...]

The More Things Change…
Richard Stuart, like many Republicans, made a contribution to Pollard for Delegate during Albert Pollard’s first tenure in the General Assembly. A few years later Stuart ran against Pollard as a “Life-Long Conservative Republican,” switched his position on abortion, and claimed that his opponent was “as liberal as they come.” Yeeeaaah. If you ever want to see what Senator-Elect Stuart looks like, just look up [...]

We kid the President…
Is it just me, or is President Bush playing smaller and smaller rooms?
With just a year to go in his second term, the President should be a Headliner, slaying ‘em during the midnight show at the Bellagio!
Condi Rice, playing Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat Minor while twirling a flaming baton, could be his [...]

Sen. Deeds to the Rescue
Cross-Posted at RaisingKaine
UPDATE: Click here to read a copy of the letter
Sen. Creigh Deeds has come to the defense of Patricia Mancini by calling out Bill Boss Howell’s funding of Price Jett Jr.’s ridiculous lawsuit. And to make sure Jett doesn’t succeed in buying a seat on the Stafford School Board, Deeds is contributing to Mancini’s [...]

Beginning of the End for 99th District Republicans: Jan. 12
The race to become the person who loses to Albert Pollard is underway. On Jan. 12 in Montross, Republicans will convene to select their nominee for the special election to fill the vacant 99th House District seat. According to their bylaws, Democrats can’t select their method of choosing a nominee until Gov. Kaine officially schedules the [...]

Lone Star Foreshadowing
Tonight, a victory by Dan Barrett has narrowed the GOP majority in the Texas State House to only 79 seats out of 150. Local legislative races are obviously never going to get the attention that statewide or federal elections receive, but are just as significant because of the domino effect they have on higher offices. Ironically, the prospect [...]
