17 Year-Olds Can Vote on Dec. 11

vote-button.jpgDid you know that 17 year olds can vote in the Dec. 11 special election as long as they turn 18 by Nov. 4, 2008?!

That’s right, according to the registrar’s office who got the ruling from the Attorney General. Of course that means they only have until Dec. 4 to register.

There are 3 ways to do this…..they can download and mail a form that’s been postmarked by Tuesday Dec. 4, 2007; they can register in person at the Registrars’ Office (M-F 8:00am-4:30pm); and of course they can go to the DMV.

  1. This is incredible news! The 100+ Young Democrats at North Stafford, Mountainview, Colonial Forge and Brooke Point have to register. Just think of the impact this will have. I’m sure Creigh Deeds would have enjoyed a fresh group of voters…

  2. Yay! The 17 year old in our household just got registered today and is looking forward to getting his voter registration card in the next few days. He’s also looking forward to casting his first vote — as a Democrat — on Tuesday. Finally after all these years of working polling places, canvassing, lit-dropping, voter-contacting, phone banking, sign-waving he will get to excercise his right to vote.

BTW, the Voter Registrar’s office reported that a lot of other voter registrations from 17 year old were coming in from the high schools today.

  3. It is exciting for the 17 year old in my house too! I am just as excited for her. I never realized that this would be such a significant stepping stone in her life. She has been reading the Forgit and Lucky lit. Nothing from Wittman in this strong D home. I do believe that Lucky will be helping out Forgit. Lucky is the “true conservative.”
