Powerful GOP-Friendly Law Firm Brought in for School Board Recount

The Firm by John GrishamInternational law firm Troutman Sanders has been brought in by the local Howell political machine in the Mancini/Jett recount lawsuit. This is the same firm that represented now Attorney Gen. Bob McDonnell (R) in his recount with Sen. Creigh Deeds (D) in 2005. This is the same law firm that hired fmr. Attorney Gen. Mark Earley (R) after he lost to Gov. Mark Warner (D) in 2001. And of course the same law firm that has donated money in the past to House Speaker Bill Howell (R). All this, for a local school board race that they no have realistic chance of winning.

And it gets even better. These are the same people who want to run power lines all across Stafford County. From Troutman Sanders’ website:

power-lines.jpg Troutman Sanders LLP has captured the highest ranking among U.S. law firms for legal services to the American utility industry, according to the 2006 survey by BTI Consulting Group, a national authority on law firm management and strategy.

Troutman Sanders, which celebrates its 109th anniversary this year, was voted to the top power ranking position by in-house utility lawyers and executives surveyed in BTI’s annual benchmarking report. They based their ratings on six criteria, including primary relationships between the law firms and their clients, “go-to” status, the industry’s preference for enlisting specialized firms with problem-solving capabilities, and general client recommendations.

  1. Howell obviously recruited these guys in an attempt to intimidate Mancini with the prospect of huge legal fees. Interesting he uses Dominion’s lawyers to do his dirty work while posing as a defender of those constituents about to see their kids carcinogenized for Dominion’s greed.
